College of Engineering Pune (COEP), one of the oldest engineering colleges in India, was established in the year 1854. It is a premier engineering institution in the country and is consistently ranked very highly by various independent surveys on Technical Education in India. It is the Lead Centre under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) assisted by the World Bank. The institute has around 3500 students on roll pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education in various disciplines.

Department of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering established in 1854 has the distinction of being the oldest department in the institute. Even after completing its sesquicentennial anniversary, the department has kept updating to well- equipped laboratories and research. The faculty believes in quality teaching and is very active in projects, conferences and research publications. The department offers consultancy in various fields of Civil engineering to reputed government and private sectors. Department also offers five Post Graduate and a Doctoral Program.

Town Planning Section

The Town Planning Section was founded in the year 1966. COEP has this distinction of being first in the state to start a master's program in Town and Country Planning. Since its inception, the department has grown into one of the largest and most widely respected graduate town and country planning program in the state and country. It was merged with Department of Civil Engineering in the year 2006. In 2012-13, a four-year bachelor course in Planning has also started after permission from AICTE. This course is committed to produce best Planners of the Nation to take up the challenges of physical and socio- environmental development of global standards.

With an aim to be a Center of Excellence in Environment, Sustainable Development and Urban and Regional Planning, the Town Planning Section has seen many glorifying achievements and will continue the same in future as well.
